Okay, that was a mess, but here is our puzzle. Okay, I actually really like puzzles like this because there's only a finite number of things that we can do. So we can see that this ball will not fit through the hole. This piece will fit through the hole. This little piece will fit through the hole. So, this square will not fit through this hole, but it will fit through here. And I think we can also put this around the other side. So, if my count is right, that is four possible moves that you can do in various directions and permutations. So, I can see that the first move almost certainly has to be putting this through here.
